Wake Up Call



By now you probably have seen the first suggested video “Forks Over Knives”.  If you haven’t then you should stop reading now and go watch at least that one.  YouTube.  https://youtu.be/n1LUj3kxB9M  But, if you are still stubborn enough to be here, I guess you can get the Cliff Notes version now. 😏

FORKS OVER KNIVES examines the profound claim that most; if not all; of the chronic illnesses and diseases of our western society that afflict us can be preventable, arrestable, controlled and even reversible by replacing our current way of eating of consuming animal-based and processed foods to a Whole Food Plant Based Diet (WFPB).  You can lose weight, get off your meds, reverse disease processes and feel so much better with more energy. 

This post is going to be a bit more serious because it is dealing with a serious health problem due to our current eating habits.  We are in the midst of a health crisis where “this could be the first generation of children in the United States that lives less than its parents.  We have an unprecedented amount of type 2 diabetes in our children, and we're starting to see hypertension in our children in grammar school.  Almost one in five American four-year-olds are now considered to be obese”.  We need to wake up and realize we have a very serious growing health issue in our country costing us over $2 trillion a year in health care costs and it is escalating exponentially.  We are killing ourselves and what is worse, we are killing our children or at the very least we are jeopardizing their health and gifting them with a whole host of chronic illnesses before they even graduate high school!

Here are some important facts you should gain from the video.

No less than 40% of Americans today are obese, and about half of us are taking some form of prescription drug.  Many are taking 10 or more pills daily.  The best known statin drug, Lipitor, (treatment for high cholesterol) is the most prescribed drug ever in the world and have you read the side effects?  

“Every minute, a person in the U.S. is killed by heart disease. 1500 people a day die from cancer.  Combined, these two diseases kill over 1 million Americans every year.  Cases of diabetes are skyrocketing, particularly among our younger population.  Life-threatening diabetes.  One out of three people born in the U.S. today will develop this crippling condition, during their lifetime.  Millions of others suffer from a host of other degenerative diseases.”  The facts just go on and on.  Doctors say we really need to eat less red and processed meat and they have been saying it for years, but we are just not listening.

Now, because of legal reasons, I must advise you again that I make no guarantees and you must consult your physician before making any dietary changes and most of all don’t stop any meds on your own without the advice of your physician.  But, I do advise you to seek a physician who does have a good knowledge base of nutrition.  Go to your doctor and get a routine check up with baseline lab work done.  Then, I urge you to give this WFPB plan of eating at least a few weeks under the supervision and blessing of your doctor of course and see if your lab results don’t reflect positive changes.  You will begin to notice changes in how you feel, gain more energy and feel in control of your health.
